color.
silence leads my heart to places I have never been
my soul is tainted, and the windows in are dark and stormy
subconscious thoughts suppressed by my conscious mind
is this warfare and violence just an image of my mind?
the space between my knees and the floor
is a space i’ve never traveled before
yet i’ll take the time to walk the aisle
passing pews full of desolate smiles
i stare solemnly at the floor
watching where and what my feet have found
through eyes that only see black and grey
ahead i see glory won and victory lost
a color i have never seen before
all eyes before had seemed so empty
these eyes are different they are burning
with passion and love with flame and fire
the shackles that once had bound
my wrist together fall shamefully to the ground
with free hands i reach to the one
who turned those chains undone
touching his hand
and looking at mine
i try to step forward but find I cannot
simply instead i kneel to the floor
staring at the crimson on my hands
then i hear a whisper so clear
my child quit wandering for i am here
this color is gold this color is pure
this color means salvation is here
the crimson never leaves his outstretched arms
the tear of love never leaves his passionate eye
instead i leave different than when i came
a new direction without any pain
are.
You are.
You exist. You are here. You live on this planet. You are.
You may be a teacher, a mom, a dad. a doctor, or you could be the president or CEO of some company. But the truth of the matter is that you exist in the moment exactly as you are. That includes all of you. Your habbits, desires, and imperfections. You are here. Where are you going?
I am simply a child. A young woman walking through life. I forget sometimes that I need to go to God as I am. To go home, with all of me. I am. You are. We need to go home running to God as we are, with all of us.
It’s hard. But it’s where I’m going. It’s where you need to go. We all need to go home as we are. Just like we go to school, work, and the store- as we are. With all of our goals, habbits, and imperfections.
Go. As you are.
feel the word
I think so often about this word “Love”.
What exactly does it mean to be in love or to love something? How do feel the word love? Is it in the warm sunshine or the crisp breeze? Is it felt in the warm embrace of a hug? Do you feel the word love with a tantalizing kiss? Or is it in the innocence of a kiss on the cheek?
I wonder how Jesus felt the word love. Did he feel it when he was laughing with his disciples? Did he feel it when the prostitute cried on his feet? Did he feel loved when Judas kissed him on his cheek?
I wonder if the world can know what love is, in its truest form?. What is love’s truest form? I tend to think, that the closest I am ever going to get to knowing true love is knowing the Son of God. Therefore, I tend to believe that the world won’t know true love unless they know Christ as well.
And at the end of all of this thinking, I know my heart loves. My heart loves the world and people around me. And I want them to experience love’s purest form.
A Great Mistake
Today is Easter. To some it’s simply another holiday but to me and my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ it is a day of celebration and excitement. Our Saviour is risen and that is great news. I love the story of the Crucifixion. It’s powerful. Jesus made the choice to stay on that cross even though it was my sin that put him up there.
I also love the story because I think it is Satan’s greatest mistake. Satan from the day of his rebellion has been trying to claim creation as his own and from the moment Eve bit the apple and Adam followed suit we became sinful and trapped in his rebellious nature. The only fix to our situation came and is still from the Lord Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. Ultimately, it was our sin that put him there, and his love that kept him there.
But there is something that I find quite interesting about the way Christ died and how his trial and death came about. He was betrayed by a man whom he loved for money because he was deceived by Satan. His trial was unfair, accused of things he had never done, by men giving false testimony because they too were siding with Satan. And crucifixion was an execution reserved for the most vile of criminals and we know that Jesus was not a criminal because he was sinless, so this too, was part of the plan and I’m sure Satan enjoyed the thrill of seeing him hang there in humiliation.
Yet, I think when the nails were pounded in he began to realize that he had just made a great mistake. In order for Christ to create a path of redemption he had to live a sinless life and die and rise from the dead. I’m not sure which part of that would be the hardest, a life without sin or rising from the dead. That doesn’t matter though because he accomplished both a sinless life and freedom from grips of death. When Christ was nailed to the cross he hadn’t sinned yet, and I imagine that this is when panic set in for Satan.
See, he’d just had a perfect man crucified and as we know crucifixion leads into death. He’d just made it easier for Christ to accomplish his goal. So, how did he respond? Like he does in every situation- he begins tempting.
Shortly after the crucifixion we see that the crowds begin to harass Christ. Mocking, screaming, taunting, and so much more. The Gospels tell a story of a harsh and brutal crowd saying things like, “if you’re truly God’s son, come down off the cross” or “you say you’re here to save but you cannot even save yourself.” Temptation at his weakest moment, the moments before death. Yet, LOVE kept him there.
I’m thankful that Satan became so caught up in destroying the Son of God that he in the end ended up destroying his own kingdom and set in motion the destruction of his reign of terror. So, today I am celebrating the greatest gift of love and the power and victory of Christ over death. But also, laughing at Satan’s great mistake.
